Engineering Technology was first introduced in UMP in 2011. Under Faculty of Technology, three programmes were offered which is Bachelor of Engineering Technology (Electrical) with Honours, Bachelor of Engineering Technology (Manufacturing) with honors and Bachelor of Engineering Technology (Energy & Environment) with honors.
To cater for the increasing demand on engineering technology programmes, UMP steps ahead to establish a pure engineering technology faculty. The faculty, named as Faculty of Engineering Technology is conferred on 1 April 2014 by UMP's Board of Directors.
The establishment of the Faculty of Engineering Technology is in line with the Malaysian Government's initiative through the Economic Transformation Programme (ETP) that targets Malaysia to be a high-income country by 2020. Seven (7) field of studies have been identified in the National Key Economic Areas includes :
a) Oil, Gas and Energy
b) Palm Oil & Rubber
c) Electronics & Electrical
f) Communications Content & Infrastructure
g) Greater Kuala Lumpur & Klang Valley
In addition, the establishment of this faculty also helps in providing workforce for the emergence of human resources who are capable of performing technical tasks, highly skillful and innovatively creative.
